I was reading SteveS' thread last night about his concave guitar top and wondered whether I had been successful in creating an arch in my guitar top... Well, upon checking with a straightedge, I have discovered that the top at the lower bout has actually sunk, in a very similar vein to Steves' guitar... I am wanting to place the bridge and set the neck as soon as my neck has been carved...would be an idea to put a Dampit humidifier into the guitar to raise the top a bit? (assuming I have the same problem of the top being too moist?) The humidity presently sits around 45% to 50%...and has done for over three weeks due to low rainfall.. Also, wanting to get the bridge and neck sorted, would the measurements recommended by Stewmac be different, for example the "leeway height" one has when measuring from the neck to the saddle? Cheers for any input. |

Sam I would say yes to Dampit humidifier, and keep the body in a case if you have one. It might take a fews days to start doming. it wasn't mentioned in the other post, but is the back sinking also. Try to get the top to dome up a little before you try to figure the neck joint angle. It is what i would do. Tom |

Thanks for the reply.. The back is BEAUTIFULLY domed, thanks!! I haven't got a hardshell case for this guitar, so I'll wrap it... Actually I am wondering...if the back's okay, I wonder if it is a newbie structural fault? |

Gibson and other flattops makers have enjoyed this problem, so probably not a newbie problem. |
